U-40 Recap

U-40: Party with a Purpose

Heartfelt thanks to partner Rachel Czernin for hosting the Under 40 Party with a Purpose at her home and to partner Carrie Miller for leading the discussion so thoughtfully and thoroughly. Thanks again to Carrie for providing the highlights from this party at our Annual Partners’ Meeting in January.  Here are a few of the discoveries which surfaced:

Q: What are the benefits of SVP to younger partners?

A: Learning and leadership opportunities; skill-building; broad networking opportunities; exposure to a diversity of causes and partners; sense of family and community; entrée to Cleveland job market; building awareness of philanthropy and the needs of nonprofits; learning about what’s happening in the community and helping to make a difference (individually and collaboratively)

Q: Is a visible group of U-40s needed and do they need separate events?

A: Not really. The general consensus was that this is not necessary. The U-40s appreciate the experience, networking opportunities, and informal mentorship the veteran members provide. They like attending events peopled by the entire partnership. However, because most U-40s have limited funds, it is important to stress the availability of different financial levels to prospective partners whose full earning potential has not yet been realized.

Q: What are some important next steps?

A: U-40s shared ideas for reaching others in their age group who would be interested in SVP. We will incorporate these ideas as we plan our partner meetings and educational events all year.
